For three years in a row, we've had a bird make a nest on our front porch and it's always a treat! I love watching the little babies grow up, but then sadly fly the coop. I thought I'd share a little photo story of their last day in the nest.
Once a mother decides her babies are ready to take flight, she will beckon them out by flying in front of the nest and calling them. They eventually make the connection that they too can fly and then just up and leave the nest. Here's Mama trying to call them out.
This variety of bird is called a House Finch. Both parents are very active in raising their babies. They are a bit hard to see in the photo, but both Mom and Dad are on a branch calling to their babies...
I tried to get a decent shot of them, but it's hard when you have to shoot so far away...
Look at my front yard...our flower path is rockin, huh?
Then someone got jealous that I wasn't paying attention to him! Thus ends the bird photo shoot!
