Recognize the guy? Well, that cute pooch next to him may be our new dog. I say may because we already feel like we have enough pets, but this poor guy was abandoned and we couldn't just walk away from that. So, if he fits within our routine, then he can stay. Otherwise, we are fostering him until we can find him a good home.
It all started last weekend when we visited the Blue Ridge Parkway. While having lunch in a small park, the dog came over to our picnic bench and stayed with us. Thinking it was odd that the only other family there didn't keep an eye on him, we suspected that perhaps he was a stray. We asked that family and our worries were confirmed. We took him to the nearby shelter and hoped he had gotten lose from his owner.
Sadly, the shelter called us a week later and said that no one claimed him. They then said that if we didn't adopt him, they would have to euthanize him due to overcrowding issues at the shelter. Talk about making us feel like we just sent him to meet his maker! I mean come on - look at this guy!
He is a very well behaved, very cuddly dog. We know he's under a year, so we are hoping he doesn't get much bigger. We've been told he's a husky/boarder collie mix. And for those that have noticed that we are in possession of yet another black animal - no, we are not intentionally trying to only adopt black pets!!!
The timing couldn't be worse because we leave for a trip this week. Thankfully we have the world's best neighbor and she is an animal lover. She's going to help out immensely.
